The Connection Between Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) & Protective Factors and Resilience Workshop

This workshop is open to anyone who works with children and youth. Indiana Youth Insitute (IYI) will take a fresh look at how Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are at the foundation of why many become Youth Workers.  IYI will also dive into how ACEs are at the foundation of a community change capacity-building movement called Self-Healing Communities. During this workshop participants will examine a few definitions and characteristics of protective factors in order to help Youth Workers strengthen their “why.” This workshop, led by Velshonna Luckey, is intended celebrate Youth Workers, highlight their gift to their community, and strengthen their understanding of how Protective Factors help us create resilient communities.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the basics of ACEs
  • Define protective factors and understand how they can positively impact communities
  • Examine the role of youth workers in creating protective factors in the community they serve
